Wellness Massage

Long gliding strokes are applied to the body to soothe away stress, increase circulation and revitalize both the skin and muscles beneath. Pressure is given at your comfort level and lotion/oil use is optional (sessions done partially clothed or through the sheet if preferred or applicable).

A combination of deep gliding stokes, myofascial techniques, joint movements and muscle energy techniques are applied as needed to restore proper tissue health and structural balance. This type of session is good for those who have chronic conditions, old injuries, limitations in mobility or just prefer deep massage with dramatic results! This can range in intensity due to your tolerance level and your body’s restrictions.
A one-hour treatment designed to target all the aches and pains that go along with this exciting time. This massage helps to decrease low back and hip pain, achy necks, sore legs and feet, and swelling in the limbs. About 45 minutes is spent soothing your tired muscles, then the session is finished with lymphatic drainage techniques and a home program to help with symptoms between massage visits. *(In the early weeks of pregnancy the woman may lay on her back and her abdomen. As her belly begins to grow she will receive massage in a side-lying and semi-reclined position or face down on special cushions designed with a hole for the growing belly. It is always best to consult with your doctor prior to receiving a prenatal massage.

Promote your body’s own healing mechanisms, boost your immunity, reduce puffiness caused by water retention, poor circulation or pregnancy, and decrease swelling due to injury or surgery through the very light pressure of lymphatic drainage massage. Lymphatic Massage stimulates the lymphatic system to remove congestion and stagnation from within the body, and help it return to a healthy condition. The primary function of the lymph system is to defend the body against disease by cleansing, detoxifying, and nourishing the body’s tissues. When the lymphatic system is blocked, toxins and excess fluid may accumulate causing interference with cell nourishment and depressing the immune system.

Cupping massage at symmetry uses negative pressure via silicone suction cups to lift the skin and corresponding deeper soft tissues, thus creating dramatic increase in tissue mobility and lymphatic movement. It works well on old injuries and scars as well as acute inflammation and even unwanted puffy areas. Cupping can be implemented on its own or blended in to a Swedish or deep tissue session.

*Because of it’s potential deep impact to the body’s healing response, it is extra important to hydrate well and do all recommended exercise and self-care if receiving this type of work. It is also not uncommon to be left with “bruising” marks on the body for a few hours or even days as the body processes all the waste the cups pulled to the surface.

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disfunction can be a addressed with a combination of massage, pressure points and exercises for the muscles both inside and outside the mouth, scalp and ears. (Your therapist will wear dental gloves if doing any internal work and/or can instruct the patient to do their own work if preferred.)

TMJ treatment can address many conditions including but not limited to:

  • locking/popping or stiffness with jaw movement
  • Sinus pain
  • Ringing and/or pain in the ears
  • clenching or grinding of the teeth
  • unexplained headaches, face pain or swallowing issues

Ortho-Bionomy was invented by British osteopath Dr. Arthur Lincoln Pauls in the 1970’s. Dr. Pauls took his understanding of energy and movement and connected it with massage techniques in order to allow the body to achieve alignment and integration. It is a pain-free technique that works with your body’s current holding patterns to create muscle release. This is a safe and effective technique that brings the body into balance naturally while allowing for change to happen at the pace the body is ready to accept.

While the techniques are gentle and painless, it does involve the nervous system and can have some unique side effects. It important to take a few extra minutes to walk around before driving off to the next event after a session.

DermoNeuroModulation (DNM) “is a structured, interactive approach to manual therapy that considers the nervous system of the patient from skin cell to sense of self. Techniques are slow, light, kind, intelligent, responsive and effective.” Moving the position of the arms and legs—relative to the body’s core—repositions the skin and stimulates a neurological response of relaxation and release. Medical Massage

What is medical massage?

According to the American Medical Massage Association (AMMA), medical massage is:
“A system of manually applied techniques designed to reduce pain, establish normal tissue tension, create a positive tissue environment and to normalize the movement of the musculoskeletal system. Medical massage is a scientifically based method of manual therapy that seeks a clear understanding of the scientific principles of physiology that affect connective and soft tissue healing and treatment.”

  • Medical Massage is not a general treatment, it is applied as a specific manual therapy to the areas relating to the diagnoses provided by the primary care physician.
  • Medical Massage treatment plans involve several progressive steps or stages of manual therapy treatment whose goal is to correct abnormal conditions affecting the muscle-skeletal system while reducing or eliminating pain.
  • Medical Massage adopts the medical terminology, medical techniques and medical protocols used by the traditional allopathic, medical systems of health care

Medical massage requires a prescription from a primary care provider or other appropriate medical professional and is billed in 15 minute increments.

What is required for medical massage?

Before coming to your massage appointment you must print out a copy of the Massage Medical Referral Form and have it filled out by your primary care provider or an appropriate medical professional.

What Client’s Say

Meeting Jenny and having her work on my cranky body over the last couple of years has been transforming. Having Plantar fasciitis on right foot, right hip flexor issues that turn into restless leg syndrome if not properly cared for, along with tendonitis in my right elbow (starting to see the theme—my right side was a mess) until I began my regular visits to Jenny.

Jenny is unique as a massage therapist due to having her degree in Sports Medicine, therefore understand the human body and how it interconnects. On occasion, I decide not to share my current ache/pain with her, and within a few minutes she discovers it for herself. She is amazingly attuned to my body, how it works and most importantly, how to fix it! I am thankful for having found Jenny.

Kristen, Camas, WA
I appreciate the knowledge and expertise of the different massage therapists I have had over the past couple years. Especially Jenny, who not only finds the problem areas but works hard to work out the kinks and give me exercises to help the problem!
Nurse, Vancouver, WA
I came to Symmetry because my massage therapist, who I had been going to for several years and was very happy with, was moving out of the area. I asked him for a recommendation and he referred me to Jennifer at Symmetry. I was a little reluctant that she wouldn’t be as good as he was, but I was wrong. She has been wonderful and uses many of the same techniques he did, which keeps this body of mine in good working order.
Patty, Vancouver, WA

“Karen is naturally skilled at identifying problematic areas and working out tension- I won’t use anyone else.”
